Pokemon RGB Character Selection is an exciting ROM hack that lets you choose your character right at the start of the game during Professor Oak’s speech. You can pick from three characters: Red, Green, and Blue, each with unique sprites and features.
- If you choose the female character, your sprite will be green. This change is reflected throughout the game, including the overworld, battle screen, town map, and trainer card. All references to the player’s gender have been made gender-neutral. For example, Mom’s line “all boys leave home” is now “all kids leave home.”
- If you decide to play as Oak’s grandson, your character and the rival switch places. This includes their mom, sister, and all references to their family. Playing as the rival makes your character blue.
- The standard character remains red, just like in the original game.
The sprites for the girl character were created by BurstXShadowzX on DeviantArt and adapted into the ROM. The rival character sprites were custom-made to fit perfectly into the game.
