Pokémon Scarlet and Violet are the first fully open-world RPGs in the main Pokémon series, released on November 18, 2022, for the Nintendo Switch. Set in the Paldea region, these games allow players to freely explore vast landscapes, towns, and wild areas without restrictions. Players take on the role of a student at Naranja Academy (Scarlet) or Uva Academy (Violet), embarking on an adventure with three interconnected storylines—defeating Gym Leaders in any order, battling massive Titan Pokémon, and taking on Team Star.The games introduce new Pokémon, including the starter trio (Sprigatito, Fuecoco, Quaxly) and Legendary Pokémon Koraidon (Scarlet) and Miraidon (Violet), which serve as rideable companions. The Terastal Phenomenon adds a fresh battle mechanic, allowing Pokémon to change their type mid-battle for new strategic opportunities.
